Privacy Policy
Last updated July 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Down Events Co ("Down", "we", "us") collects, why, who we share it with, and what control you have. It applies to the Down app and related services.
1. What We Collect
You give us: your username, email address, password (stored only by our authentication provider, never by us in readable form), first and last name, phone number, birthday, ZIP code, profile photo, any social handles you link, venue or seller profile content you submit, support requests, and the content of messages you send.
From your bookings: the listings you view and book, your group, your invitees' responses, and booking status and history.
Payment data: handled by Stripe. Down receives payment-method identifiers, card brand, last four digits, payment status, authorization, charge, refund, dispute, and receipt information. We never receive or store your full card number.
Location: ZIP codes, searched locations, and device location if you grant location permission. Device location may include latitude and longitude; we use it to show nearby venues and improve location relevance.
Analytics and diagnostics: device identifiers, device and app version, app opens, taps, screens viewed, searches, listings viewed, booking funnel events, feature usage, performance, diagnostic, and crash information. We may collect analytics broadly to understand, secure, debug, improve, and grow the Service.
2. Why We Use It
To create and secure your account; to show you relevant listings; to run bookings, invitations, and group messaging; to process payments, holds, refunds, chargebacks, and receipts; to review sellers and venue submissions; to send booking and account notifications; to prevent fraud and abuse; to provide support; to analyze and improve the Service; and to comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your messages to build advertising profiles.
3. What Other People See
Your username, name, profile photo, and any handles you link are visible to other users. Your friends and the people in a booking with you can see your participation in that booking. Venues and sellers see the booking details they need to honor your reservation, including the group creator's name and the group size.
Your email address, phone number, birthday, and ZIP code are not shown to other users.
4. Who We Share It With
- Service providers who run parts of the Service for us: Firebase (authentication, messaging, notifications), Supabase (database and file storage), and Stripe (payments). They may only use the data to provide their service to us.
- Venues and sellers, for the bookings you make with them.
- Law enforcement or regulators, where we are legally required to, or where we believe in good faith it is necessary to prevent serious harm.
- A successor, if Down is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — we will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
5. Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account from Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent — there is no in-app way to undo it.
What we erase: your email, phone number, names, username, birthday, ZIP code, profile photos, and your name history. Your friendships and blocks are deleted. Your login is removed, so you cannot sign back in.
What is retained, and why:
- Your booking rows. Other guests and the venue still need the record of an event they attended or paid for. Your identity is replaced with an anonymous placeholder shown as "Deleted User".
- Messages you sent. Message bodies stay in the conversations you sent them to, because they are part of other people's conversation history. They are attributed to "Deleted User", not to your name.
- A deletion notice. When you delete your account, participants in your active bookings receive a system message naming you — for example, "Alex deleted their account and will now appear as Deleted User" — so they know why the plan changed. That notice is an ordinary message in their conversation history and, unlike the rest of your data, it permanently records the name you used. We do this because those people already knew your name and would otherwise be left with a plan that silently broke.
- Payment records. Stripe payment records are retained for financial and tax obligations. Your name, email, and saved payment methods are removed from Stripe on our next purge cycle.
- Aggregate counts such as the number of events attended, which carry no identifying information.
- Your username, which is retired permanently and never reissued — including to you.
Stored files and external copies are swept on a scheduled purge that runs at least monthly.
6. Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. After deletion we keep only what section 5 describes, for as long as the legal or operational reason for it lasts. Backups are cycled out on their own schedule.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to opt out of certain analytics or marketing where required, and to complain to a data-protection authority. You can update some profile fields and delete your account in the app. You can also write to help@downevents.com to request access, correction, export, deletion, analytics opt-out, or to revoke location permission. You can disable location access in iOS Settings. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level authorization to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
9. Children
Down is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact help@downevents.com and we will delete it.
10. International Users
Down is operated from the United States, and your information is processed there. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you consent to that transfer.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email before they take effect, and the date above will change.
